Damaged Buildings in 15mm scale...

...more laser-cut wood buildings from 4Ground Models
4GroundBuildings (5).JPG

Modern technology has brought a number of benefits to modellers, and one of these is the use of computers along with laser cutting tools.  Designed primarily for wargamers, these buildings from 4 Ground Models come pre-coloured and a simply excellent and fun to build.  They come in a pack of pre-coloured boards, the parts pre-cut. It is easy enough to press out the parts and clean up the small points which remain to connect them to the board.  They have good clear instructions, the fit of parts is very good, and glue together with simple white wood glue.

This time I'll look at some more examples from their 15mm scale buildings.  There are a variety of houses, shops and in this case a hotel, which are available as both intact models, or alternatively as damaged buildings.  Here we can see 4 from the range -

  • Damaged Grand Stone Hotel

  • Damaged Terrace 1

  • Damaged Semi-Detached 1

  • Damaged Shop 2

As you can see from the pictures, this exposes the internal floors, ideal for placing figures in a wargaming scenario though equally good if you want to use them in a diorama.  The laser cutting process effectively 'burns' the wood, so the effects on those exposed and damaged floors/roof joists, are ideal.  The other thing you can see is that you glue the parts together (using white glue) but the different floors of the buildings and the rooves can be left unglued, as they have location pins which enable everything to be fitted together/taken apart quite happily.  In the photos below you can see the completed models, and in the last photos and additional pack, their Damaged Hamlet, this has just the ground floors and the basic remains of the walls.

I am a great fan of these models, and in addition to these more modern European subjects, they also have ranges in different scales for Sci-Fi, Medieval, Wild West and Fantasy buildings.  Among them, and one I still plan to get, is the set for the Napoleonic La Haye Sainte. Check out all their ranges on their website via the link at the bottom of this page.
