DFS 230V-6 Assault Glider with Decelleration

Rocket in 1/72...

...a second variant from Bronco Models (GB7009

Part of their May production programme, Bronco released a second variation on their neatly detailed 1/72 model of this German light assault glider.  One of the prototypes fitted with nose mounted rockets to help slow it down for landing.  Essentially it is the same as the initial release but with additional parts to change the nose arrangement, and the fitting of small rockets, facing forward.  It is one that never got into production during the war, but is an interesting variant.  If you want to, the original nose for the basic glider is still included so you can build it in that form too.  As well as Bronco's images below, there is also one of mine illustrating the parts you get in the box.

Here is what Bronco's notes tell us about it -

DFS230V-6 Light Assault Glider W/ Deceleration rocket

In 1936, the German military put forward the idea of the direct use of the glider to transport combat troops, and then put forward the concept of "assault glider". DeutscheForschungsanstaltfürSegelflug, (DFS) in 1937 successfully developed three prototype, immediately by the military procurement volume (military project code DFS-230), and became a Luftwaffe standard light assault glider, the first type, DFS-230A. The glider using high wing monoplane with wing support hybrid structure, rectangular fuselage use steel tube structure, flax Bumonpi, cost low and easy production. The machine can accommodate 8 heavily armed soldiers and 2 drivers. It also can be used by a variety of Luftwaffe aircraft towed off, took off after the left landing gear, landing use under the fuselage centerline skid landing. Type MG-15 is equipped with on DFS-230B which can be used in the air and is used for self defense and fire suppression on the ground.

As far as possible to shorten the distance between the landing and DFS test in DFS230A-1 head installed three by Rhienmetall-Borsig company produces the reverse jet rocket. As a result, the DFS230C-1 short take-off and landing type. The test shows that the use of rocket jet generated by the reaction force of the aircraft can be completed within 16 meters from the landing and stop. In addition, the smoke generated when the rocket can also provide effective protection for gliders and paratroopers after landing. A group is provided with a decelerating rocket DFS 230C-1 type glider in German in 1943 Italian to rescue Mussolini action in Gran Saso. DFS then again in a B-1 installed on the retro improved, this prototype was named "DFS230V6". DFS then again in a B-1 installed on the retro improved, this prototype was named "DFS230V6". Originally planned on the basis of the development of another mass production model DFS230D-1, but ultimately failed to complete.
