Krupp Raumer S in 1/35...

...the Takom kit built

There was a prototype of the huge Krupp Raumer S captured by US forces in Germany at the end of WW2.  The huge vehicle was designed to be a heavy mine exploder.  With huge solid wheels and two large armoured body sections, it was articulated in the centre and was intended to be driven through a minefield, exploding the mines, but built in such a way that it could withstand the blasts and continue to operate.  It was dismantled for transport but what happened to it remains a mystery.

Part of their release schedule for the first part of 2017 this is not a complex model compared to some, but it is a huge and impressive model.  It basically consists of two almost identical body sections, with the only difference being the width of the huge wheels.  These were designed to complement each other so together the two sets covered a wider track through the minefield.

Assembly was straightforward and quite quick for such a large machine.  There are some mould joins which need to be dealt with, but again that is not difficult and can be done with little more than a sharp craft knife or file.

The painting guides provide for the captured example, in a red primer, along with some possible alternatives, though none actually existed.  One of these shows it in overall Olive Drab with US markings.  The colour guides are provided for Takom by Ammo of Mig Jiminez, and the painting instructions are keyed to their range of acrylic paints.
