M1114 HMMWV in 1/72...

...building the new kit from T-Model

I posted the news of this new kit a short while ago (see the item in my News section, which does include sprue shots) and having now received a sample I have started on building it, though very little done due to a pause brought on by the death of my mother at the age of over 100 years.  So, started, but I'll bring some more news as the build progresses.  Initial reaction to opening the box is very good, though they have gone for an unusual way of breaking down the construction of the wheels.  The hub is in two halves, and there are different hubs from the front and rear wheels.  The unusual piece is that the tread pattern, nicely moulded, is done in 6 sections to be fitted around the central hubs.  Five are the same size and one section is slightly smaller.  Do check for a small amount of flash which cleans up easily with a sharp craft knife, but then the fit of them around the wheel is very good.  I've done them all now and while at first sight they may look complex, actually the fit is very good and they build quickly, and look good.

Fit of parts proved to be very good and the build itself is now finished.  I painted the interior before fitting the body, and it was given a dark brown wash to get details to stand out.  The only error I noticed in the instructions were on the two fasteners for the engine cover, which are B27 rather than B31, which is a completely different part.  The only other thing to mention is the gun shield which needs two folds though there are no etched fold lines so it needs some care and ideally an etch bending tool will help.  Next job for me is to do the external paintwork.

Thanks to Bronco Models for my example.
