Takom 1/35 21cm Morser

Another of the Takom range of 1/35 kits, this piece of WW1 German artillery is another interesting subject. By itself a good size artillery piece, though dwarfed by Krupp's 420mm Big Bertha which is also in the Takom range, and which I have also built.

A little over 200 of these heavy howitzers were built during WW1, and some remained in use in WW2, though with new wheels on the carriage, suitable for towing behind motorised tractors.  It had a range of around 10,000 yards and fired shells weighing in at 252lbs.  One unusual feature was the provision of two recoil spades on the carriage, one at the back and one half-way along as well.

It builds nicely and the end result a good model, with the distinctive plates around the wheels.  Colour guides provided in the kit offer a number of alternative colour schemes, and these have been prepared by Ammo of Mig Jiminez, and colours keyed to their acrylic paints range.
