Russian T-62 MBT Model 1962 in 1/72...
...building the Trumpeter kit
The M1117 Guardian is a mine protected Armoured Security Vehicle developed in the late 1990s, a modified form of the V100/V150 series of armoured cars that were used in Vietnam. First used in Kosovo, they were originally built in relatively small numbers, but experience in Afghanistan proved their value. They offered better protection than an armoured Hummer, and though more expensive than a Hummer, they were cheaper than the more expensive, and even larger Stryker. By 2003 just 49 were in service yet by 2007 that number had climbed to 1,729 and that number is still rising. The turret is armed with a 40mm Grenade launcher along with .50cal M2HB Browning Heavy Machine Gun.
Trumpeter's model is relatively simple, with the upper and lower hull halves which have plenty of detailed moulded on them. Fitting the two axles and suspension units is neatly done and fits together well. Just a couple of jerrycans, rear aerial mounts, front mirrors and the turret. It also has the wheels with front and rear halves of the hubs, which hold the black rubber compound tyres.
There are two options for colours and markings. One has the European 3-colour camouflage and markings for use with KFOR while the second is overall Sand in service in Afghanistan.
I bought mine via Tiger Hobbies here in the UK.
