Russian SA-6 in 1/72...

...Surface to Air Missile launcher, a new kit from Trumpeter

Trumpeter have been adding a number of new small scale kits to their range in recent months.  One of them is this Russian SA-6 'Gainful'  design.  Trumpeter have done it very neatly in injection moulded plastic.

It seems that they have been taking note in the success in recent years of the various simpler 'wargames' style models which are well detailed, but can be built quite quickly.  In this case the lower hull has some excellent detail moulded into it, including the suspension arms for the road-wheels.  The road wheels and sprocket are moulded in one piece with the track, and this single unit fits very well on the hull assembly.

The build overall is quite straightforward.  All the parts are on three sprues, plus separate parts for the track units, upper and lower hull.  The build is quick, I got mine done in a couple of hours.  The only thing to do in particular is to drill out the eyes of the tow shackles at both front and back.  The launcher itself is designed to be assembled in the raised, or firing, position.  The one shame is that the missiles are not quite the right shape, an issue with their larger scale kit of the SA-6 which has been carried through it seems.  The main vehicle is now painted, plus a coat of filter and markings now applied.  Just need to finish the missiles and weathering now...

I bought mine from Wonderland Models in Scotland.
