A new addition to their Spotlight On series from MMP Books, looking at one of the classic Delta wing jets of the post-war era, the Mirage. A 42-page hardback book which is filled with more excellent artwork which will interest aviation enthusiasts and inspire many aviation modellers.
The first two pages of text introduce and explain the beautiful colour profiles which follow, filling the rest of the book. It isn't an attempt to document every finish the Mirage was found in, but selects a variety of the most unusual and interesting colour schemes which represent the wide variety that have been seen on these very successful aircraft. The first section illustrates French operated examples, and then follow it with those used by many of the various export customers who also opted for the Mirage, the first aircraft that went into service in Europe capable of exceeding Mach 2 in level flight. These are presented in a simple alphabetical sequence of the user nations, starting with Argentina and Australia, through to Venezuela and Zaire. It has seen combat in the Middle East, in Asia with India and Pakistan, and perhaps most memorable for those of us here in the UK, by the Argentines during the Falklands War of 1982.
Each colour profile is given its' own page, along with notes on the colours and markings and the unit which operated it. Not full multi-aspect colour drawings, just one side, along with enough notes to help the enthusiast search out the additional information they need to search out any additional details they need. A good mix of camouflage styles, along with some commemorative schemes as well. Lovely artwork and a pleasure to see in themselves, while being a great inspiration for modellers to extend their collections of this famous French jet.
