Number 274 in the New Vanguard series from Osprey. The topic is a series of warships which played an important role in WW2, especially within the Battle of the Atlantic, the Escort Carrier. These small aircraft carriers carried aircraft such as the Swordfish and fighters such as the Seafire and the US built Wildcat (Martlet), enabling them to carry out anti-submarine and search operations, and fighters which could defend against air attack.

The book provides a fine grounding in the story of the Escort carrier, their development, how they were operated and the aircraft they carried. Some were converted from merchant ships and even tankers, while other classes were purpose built in the USA, and supplied to both the US Navy and Royal Navy alike.  There are a number of data tables, listing such things as the various ships in different classes, and where they served. Add to this a fine collection of archive photos and the super artwork for which Osprey are so well known, in this case by Paul Wright.

Another good addition to the New Vanguard series from Angus Konstam and Osprey. I found it meaningful for including HMS Striker, as a couple of years ago I made the acquaintance of a member of her crew who lived locally. Sadly he has since passed away but his memories he thankfully recorded.
