Panzer Kampf in Eis und Schnee...

...Panzer Manover No 01, new from Tankograd

Title: Panzer Kampf in Eis und Schnee

Author: Carl Schulz

Publisher: Tankograd

First of a new series of softcover books from Tankograd, produced in a German language publication, though with their usual high standard of photography of a good variety of modern armoured vehicles.  If you have an interest in modern military equipment this will interest you, though I suspect modellers will be keen to see this, even if not German language speakers.

NATO's northern front has long been a region for regular exercises, as the conditions of snow and ice, as in the title of this issue, present a special challenge that regular exercises prepare the various armed forces of NATO members to maintain their readiness..

Located amidst the snow and forests of Norway there is a good selection of equipment illustrated in here.  Included are US Marine LAV-25's, BvS210, the Norwegian Leopard 2A4NO, the Stridsvagn 122 and CV9040A used by Sweden, plus the US operated M1A2 Abrams, though it seems odd to see them not only in European three-colour temperate camouflage but also in overall desert sand, while deployed in deep snow.  IFVs include the CV9030N as well as the Bradley M2 and the larger AAVP7A1 RAM/RS, well suited for the waterways in Norway.  More varied types appear, with Leopard based bridgelayer, Pioneerpanzer and the big M88 Hercules Engineer vehicle, M113s and Transportpanzer Fuchs, M109A3GNM, Panzerhaubitze 2000 plus the 155mm BW  L52 Archer.  The colours, the various camouflages in use (or not...) in the wintery environment make this a very useful reference for modellers in particular.

Very much current equipment and some super photography of it.

Thanks to UK stockists Bookworld for my example.
